The Russian company BR Engineering directed by Boris Rotenberg has designed and built in 2015 Russia's first sports prototype that meets LMP2 category.

This project was launched as early as mid-2013. Paolo Catone, designer of such successful cars as F1 Minardi, Prost F1 and F3000, Peugeot 905 and Peugeot 908 HDi FAP, was involved in it. Catone worked on the BR01 prototype with a team of high-class international experts in the field of aerodynamics, composite materials and mechanics, based on international experience, as well as members of the Russian team SMP Racing.

In February 2015, BR01 was born, ready for the first race, which took place at the Paul Ricard race track. In an effort to get the best possible information about the behavior of the car and its reliability has been planned a long list of tests in the spring of 2015, and from that moment the BR01 prototype passed into the hands of SMP Racing drivers Nicolas Minassian, Mikhail Aleshin and Maurizio Mediani, who soon drove about 7,000 km on a variety of tracks without a single problem. As proof that the work has been done perfectly, BR01 received international safety confirmation at the first attempt and was ready to participate in the famous daily marathon "24 hours of Le Mans." And before that, in mid-April, two BR01 prototypes in the colors of the Russian team SMP Racing took part in the "4 Hours of Imola," the second stage of the European Le Mans Series. Soon, BR01 won its first podium and during its first racing season always showed progress in subsequent races.
